Role & Responsibility
A Security Operations Manager coordinates and executes cybersecurity detection, prevention, and recovery. The role focuses on enhancing operations, strengthening and testing defenses, collaborating with teams, and ensuring effective incident response.
Key Capabilities & Responsibilities
- Ensure that systems, networks, and applications are monitored for signs of security breaches.
- Assure investigation, containment, and response to cybersecurity incidents is executed according to IGM policies and procedures.
- Conduct SIEM operations efficiently while managing costs.
- Develop and maintain runbooks, playbooks, and operational procedures for security monitoring and incident handling.
- Coordinate effectively with all teams.
- Continually test effectiveness of security controls, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), antivirus and other solutions.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on security posture, incidents, and improvement plans.
- Stay updated with the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies to continuously improve the organization’s defenses.
- Make sure that active search for threats and indicators of compromise (IOCs) within IGM environment
- Lead and coordinate the activities of both Red and Blue Teams to ensure cohesive and effective security operations.
- Develop and implement cybersecurity roadmaps and plans.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams during high-pressure security incidents and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with security metrics, reporting, and executive-level dashboards.
- Develop and utilize custom tools and scripts to enhance threat detection and automation capabilities (Python, PowerShell).
Relevant certifications include
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH)
- Certified Threat Intelligence Analyst (CTIA)
- GIAC Cyber Threat Intelligence (GCTI)
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information security, cybersecurity, or a related combination of work experience and education.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in cybersecurity roles, with a strong focus on financial services environments and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSFI, CIRO).
- Proven track record of managing and scaling cybersecurity teams, including talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
- Demonstrated leadership in overseeing complex security operations, including threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management in high-stakes financial ecosystems.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage relationships with external SOC vendors, ensuring alignment with internal security policies, SLAs, and operational goals.
- Experience in developing and executing cybersecurity strategies aligned with enterprise risk management and business continuity objectives.
- Deep understanding of financial sector threat landscapes, including fraud prevention, insider threats, and third-party risk.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess evolving threats and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to brief executive leadership, regulators, and board members on cybersecurity posture and risk.
- Skilled in fostering collaboration across IT, risk, compliance, legal, and business units to ensure a unified security approach.
- Committed to continuous learning and staying ahead of emerging threats, technologies, and regulatory developments in the financial sector.
