About the Firm

A reputable private equity group that specializes in investing in Canadian companies with EV between $40M – $200M. The firm has an extensive and active 50+ year track record of investing in Canadian mid-market companies. With offices in Toronto, Montreal and Calgary, and strategic relationships nationwide, the investment team is well positioned to partner with a wide range of businesses across many industries. At present, they are looking to expand their Calgary team.

As the successful Associate joining this team, you will work from the Calgary office covering deal flow. This role provides you with the opportunity to work directly with seasoned investment professionals and entrepreneurial business owners as it relates to evaluating new investments, presenting opportunities to the Investment Team, and participating in portfolio management. As a member of this team, you will experience working in a highly collaborative, friendly environment while also being empowered to exercise your judgment. 

An ideal candidate will have the following key responsibilities:

Responsibilities: 

•    Contribute to the investment decision-making process and provide support to the investment team, primarily the Senior Associate, regarding investment opportunities.
•    Manage ad-hoc internal tasks such as compliance reporting, internal memos and portfolio results/presentations.
•    Conduct both company specific and industry wide due diligence.
•    Manage the reporting and compliance of existing portfolio companies internally.
•    Prepare financial models and valuations, internal investment memos, and industry overviews.
•    Assess new and existing investment opportunities, along with their expected merits and risks.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 2 – 3+ years of total work experience with 1+ in one of private equity, corporate development, corporate finance or investment banking viewed as an asset.
  • Completion of, or enrollment in, a professional designation (e.g., CFA, CA, CBV) is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced to Expert proficiency with Power Point
  • Self-motivated individual with professional demeanour.
  • Strong technical accounting and finance skills; experience conducting financial analysis with knowledge of building detailed financial models (operating models, LBOs).
  • A detail-oriented person with a passion for investing who is dynamic and proactive.
