MD Management Limited, a division of Scotia Wealth Management, has an exciting opportunity for a talented, enthusiastic, and client-focused Senior Financial Planner to join our team in different locations: Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary or  Halifax.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager you will Contribute to the overall success of the MD Client Value Performance in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, as a Senior Financial Planner (SFP), you will be responsible for teaming with the regional advisors in delivering an exceptional financial planning experience by providing relevant and tailored financial planning proposals and advice to MD clients.  You will conduct comprehensive and customized financial planning by leveraging best in class financial planning strategies and the use of our financial planning software. The SFP will share the financial planning process duties with the regional advisor, where the primary focus for the SFP is on the analysis and recommendation aspects of planning.  The regional advisor will primarily focus on deep discovery and data gathering along with the presentation of the planning work and accountability for implementation.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
 
•    Team with the regional advisor to develop comprehensive financial plans with varying levels of complexity.
•    Work with the regional advisor to efficiently receive all client related quantitative & qualitative data.
•    Conduct the relevant analysis on the client’s current situation, create different scenarios depending on client’s situation and draft specific recommendations on how the client can achieve their goals.
•    Engage MD and Scotia team members, at the analysis stage, to build the necessary solutions into the planning output.
•    Provide a planning document to the regional advisor within the pre-determined service-level-agreement (SLA) for further customization and presentation to the client.
•    Participating in the tracking of opportunities derived from the financial planning work completed to spot trends and to further support the implementation of solutions within MD/Scotia
•    Constantly improve your knowledge on all financial planning topics, areas and functions as set out by FP Canada/IQPF and MD Financials’ policies and procedures.
•    Understand how Scotiabank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

•    Have an in depth understanding of the tax and retirement planning needs of incorporated physicians.
•    For candidates outside of Quebec: Strong English mastery in written and oral. Knowledge of the French language is an asset.
•    For candidates in Quebec: Strong French mastery in written and oral. And, in your functions you will be called to service English clients and interact with colleagues from other divisions outside of Quebec, therefore a mastery of English (written and oral) is also required for the role. 

 

The Must Haves:
 
•    Min. 5 years’ experience as a financial planner and/or client-facing advisor.
•    A degree in business, commerce, or financial planning
•    Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation or the equivalent IQPF designation for Quebec residents
•    Has demonstrated comprehensive financial planning in the current role
•    Life License (LLQP) for the provinces other than Quebec; or the title financial security advisor from Quebec or a willingness to complete.
