Enbridge is looking for an Operator III to join our team!

 

The Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Company’s natural gas distribution system.

This position reports to our Chapel Hill Operations Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

What You Will Do:

Performs digging and trenching functions with heavy equipment (including backhoe, trac hoe, and mini-excavator, trenchers, and cranes) in a safe and effective manner

Performs natural gas leak investigation and detection at requested outside locations

Completes all installation or repair procedures of normal or damaged natural gas service lines and mains

Participates in the repair of third-party damage with guidance

Starts, loads, unloads, moves, and performs periodic maintenance checks on heavy equipment

Uses locating equipment to locate gas and service lines

Completes a variety of paperwork in writing and electronic work queues

Safely drives a company vehicle

Maintains the vehicle inventory

  • Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.

 

Who You Are:

0-12 months experience operating heavy equipment (including backhoe, trac hoe, and mini-excavator, trenchers, and cranes)

Experience with common hand and power tools.

Ability to calibrate instruments and use self-contained breathing apparatus and pipe squeeze-off equipment.

Ability to use locating equipment to locate natural gas and service lines.

Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies, procedures, and protocols.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions is critical.

Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key.

Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.

Ability to work independently and as a team member within a diverse team.

Availability for overtime, as needed.

Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday, as well as in the evenings and some weekends, when on-call.

Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Chapel Hill area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.

Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving history.

A valid Commercial Driver’s License is strongly preferred or must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of employment.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:

  • 6-12 months of heavy equipment operating experience.

  • 6-12 months of locating experience.

  • Good mechanical aptitude.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates preferred.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required

Physical Requirements (Include but are not limited to):

Balancing, bending and stooping, climbing, crawling, carrying (up to 80 amount of pounds), grasping, kneeling, lifting (objects 80 pounds), pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement, grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 80 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand sophisticated problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, coordinate and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and connect with individuals via telephone.

Working Conditions:

Position typically works in a crew structure.

Work is performed primarily outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.).

Position requires continuous travel throughout the service territory with frequent stops, entering/exiting the company vehicle, safely parking in a wide variety of situations, and driving in construction zones.

Position may encounter agitated/irate customers.
