MD Management Limited, a division of Scotia Wealth Management, has an exciting opportunity for a talented, enthusiastic, and client-focused Associate Portfolio Manager (APM) MD Signature Advisor  to join our team. As an Associate Portfolio Manager (APM) MD Signature Advisor, you will be responsible for contributing to the overall success of the MD Signature Advisor in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Reporting to the Regional Vice President, MD Signature you will play the key client relationship management role for MD’s most affluent clients. You will provide an exceptional financial planning experience by owning end to end client experience and coordinating the MD Signature Team activities as they relate to the client. Your guidance will be based on a holistic understanding of their financial goals and challenges, as well as their personal circumstances. Through focused listening and singular client engagement, you will actively work to help your clients understand the value of your recommendations by taking the time to explain investment options in a way that is meaningful to them. As part of a broader network of MD Signature financial experts, you will coordinate a team approach to deliver comprehensive, customized financial plans and specific investment strategies for clients. You will ensure client needs are pro-actively addressed in alignment with their current financial situation and life stage, as well as their future aspirations, by leveraging your years of experience and partnering with MD Financial Consultants and MD Signature Wealth Strategy Team comprised of MD Signature Advisors, Senior Financial Planners, Incorporation Specialist, Estate and Trust Advisor, Insurance Consultant, and a Taxation Specialist.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Be accountable for the identification and development of new opportunities to prospect and grow the MD Signature client base, while ensuring retention of clients through focused relationship management and co-ownership of the client’s financial plan.
  • Participate in client events and facilitating seminars and information meetings throughout the region (both client facing and internally), as well as implement marketing strategies to provide advice and information concerning investment programs and related services.
  • Assess client objectives and risk tolerance, calibrate investment solutions based on client input and cues, develop and implement appropriate written Investment Policy Statement; this includes gathering client personal information, determining asset allocation and identifying special needs and liquidity requirements.
  • Analyze securities for transfer in-kind due to capital gain/loss reasons, analyze segregated stocks and bonds to determine classification, suitability, and eventual disposition/tranching-in strategies, review credit quality and duration of fixed income investments, analyze industry, sector and country allocation as it pertains to equity investments.
  • Communicate and explain to clients the individual fund manager’s strategy; this includes management style and view of each Pool held in the portfolio, MD’s strategic and tactical view on markets and the economy, and overall portfolio performance.
  • Conduct ongoing client reviews including discussion of portfolio performance, periodic reviews of appropriateness of objectives and of tax situation and cash flow needs.
  • You will further your knowledge of advanced financial planning concepts including income tax, investment trends and products, and any other issues having an impact on our clients, when not meeting with clients or identifying new clients
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

 

The Must Haves:

 

  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in the financial services industry. 
  • University degree in business, commerce or financial planning.
  • As an Associate Portfolio Manager, you hold the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation or completion of level 1 of the CFA program. 
  • You must be registered or have the ability to become immediately registered with the appropriate provincial securities commission as an Associate Advising Representative.
  • Ideally, you also meet the licensing criteria to ultimately service IIROC clients as the single point of contact.
