The Supervisor Safety advances GDS’ commitment to the safety of our employees through the effective delivery of safety programs and initiatives, while leading a team who is the ‘first point of contact’ for safety support at the field level.
 

You will lead the Incident, Learning and Prevention program along with the tracking of safety performance and provide domain expertise on safety incident investigations and support development of effective corrective actions.

What You Will Do:

This is a breakdown of the role purpose into key elements, in sufficient detail to provide clarity. Accountabilities are not time-bound, or as detailed as goals, objectives, or task lists.
 

  • Ensure provision of effective field safety technical support in GDS day-to-day operations.

  • Work in collaboration with the Safety Team, Supervisor Safety Regions (GTA) and Supervisor Safety Management Systems to ensure the effective implementation of the GDS Safety Program.

  • Promote a learning organization culture through safety strategy and communication.

  • Ensure provision of safety support to Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs).

  • Ensure regulatory compliance through interactions with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training, Skills and Development (MLTSD).

  • Provide support with implementation and maintenance of safety programs (e.g. conducting respirator fit tests, EarFit tests, coordinating audiometric testing, completion of field visits, ergonomics, etc.)

  • Oversee the Incident Learning and Prevention Program.

  • Management of key H&S performance metrics.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal partners and promote learning within the GDS Safety team and broader S&R organization.

  • Provide safety subject matter expertise in support of GDS client groups.

  • Review and assess team resources and priorities to maintain high team performance output.

  • Establish clear understanding of GDS Safety roles and responsibilities.

  • Find opportunities for team members to develop personally and professionally.
     

Who You Are:

  • Occupational health & safety related degree, diploma or certification.

  • Minimum 10 years of health and safety experience including implementing health & safety management systems, programs and tools within an operations environment.

  • Oil and gas or petrochemical industry is preferred.

  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Skilled at coaching/mentoring line management and workers.

  • Validated training development and implementation track record.

  • Innovative, strategic, can initiate and lead change, work collaboratively, negotiate, influence, facilitate, solve problems, prioritize and deliver results.

  • Role requires a valid driver’s license, which will be verified with a motor vehicle check prior to hire.
     

Work Conditions:

Office environment with regular travel up to 25%.
