This role requires some experience in U.S. legal issues, including tribal, regulatory, environmental, property, and contract law. What You Will Do:

  • Provide legal advice and assistance primarily in the following areas:

    • Crude oil and liquids pipelines transportation, operation, and construction

    • Environmental permitting for pipelines, renewable energy, and associated structures

    • Regulatory Permitting (local, state, tribal, and federal)

    • Safety and Compliance

    • Real Estate and Right-of-Way matters, including purchases/sales, easements, options, and leases.

    • Contracting/Supply Chain Management

    • Coordination and management of litigation with outside counsel

  • Assist Management by providing advice, correspondence, documents, and presentations to ensure compliance with applicable tribal, federal, and state statutes and laws. 

  • Maintain effective communications with all departments seeking advice on legal matters concerning Liquids Pipelines Operations and activities.

  • Participate as a team member of the project planning and execution group in developing and implementing corporate strategy.

  • Provide legal advice and assistance to growing portfolio of renewable power generation and transmission projects.

Who You Are:

  • J.D. from ABA accredited law school.

  • A member in good standing with a US state bar association.

  • Two or more years of progressively responsible legal experience in several of the substantive areas of practice including Indigenous law.

  • Some experience in regulatory compliance, environmental and real property law, including preparing, negotiating and reviewing contracts and other agreements.

  • Highly developed skills including issue identification, strategic analysis and resolution through supervision, coordination and use of internal and external staff and counsel.

Participation in large-scale construction projects in a highly regulated environment.

Some experience working with tribal, state, and federal agencies, including familiarity with litigation.

Knowledge of energy operations or transportation infrastructure including Tribal, Federal, and State environmental laws and regulations.

Understanding of regulatory regimes applicable to infrastructure is highly desirable.

Knowledge of DOT regulations and other Federal, State, and Tribal rules applying to infrastructure is helpful.

Physical Requirements:

Included but not limited to: Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Working Conditions:

  • High demand, fast-paced office environment. Irregular hours, including evening and weekend work during peak times will be required.

  • Work performed in a typical Office Environment. Constant unusual and extended hours.

  • Concentrated levels of reading, studying, analysis, and focused listening.

  • High degree of independence and autonomy in the day-to-day performance of duties.

  • Regular travel associated with matters affecting the company.

  • The noise level in the environment is moderate.

  • Limited administrative support requires the employee to possess computer and word processing skills.
