Our Commercial Services team is looking for a detailed-oriented individual with a solid understanding of the regulation of electricity in the U.S. to fill the role of a Senior Advisor Regulatory Affairs.

In this position, you will be responsible for understanding and implementing market rules and keeping the renewable power business updated on rule changes and developments at relevant Independent System Operator (ISO) / Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) and government levels. This involves review of legislation, research and preparation, and submission of regulatory filings to ensure business compliance.

What You Will Do:

  • Monitor, track, and analyze the impacts of existing, changing, and new developments to market rules and designs. Report these findings and provide advice to internal stakeholders accordingly.

  • Identify regulatory requirements and approvals for renewable power generation development, grid interconnections, and develop, implement, and execute plans to obtain approvals.

  • In coordination with internal policy and compliance stakeholders, monitor emerging issues for the electricity sector related to commercial regulatory requirements and market rules, assess the direct and indirect impacts of these issues, and develop internal regulatory interpretations for the affected departments and leadership teams.

  • Provide recommendations and develop processes, procedures and implement regulatory applications/submissions.

Who You Are:

  • A university degree in business/commerce, economics, political science, legal, engineering, or related field.

  • 6+ years experience in the areas of regulatory or government affairs, energy marketing, trading and risk management, commercial management or business development in electricity generation, or utility experience in the electricity or gas industries is desired.

  • Understanding of regulatory environments and wholesale electricity market designs the U.S., and possibly Canada.

  • Strong communications skills, oral and written, focused internally and externally from front line to top executive levels is preferred.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple deliverables at once, under constant deadline pressure.

  • Strong research and analysis skills in subject matter field.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment. Some evening and weekend work may be required, particularly on special projects and in times of crisis.

  • Approximately 5% of travel is required for conferences and team events. Valid passport required.

Physical Requirements:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
