This position is responsible for supervision of the Measurement Engineering staff and measurement design functions of Enbridge Gas North Carolina.

Measurement Engineering is responsible for the design of all natural gas transmission and distribution measurement and regulator facilities, electronic instrumentation, automation and control devices, development of associated measurement procedures and standards, and accurate measurement data for billing and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA).

The position is based in the Company’s NC Headquarters located in Gastonia, North Carolina.

What You Will Do:

  • Supervise measurement engineers, analysts, and CAD Technicians in the quality, timeliness and delivery of work assignments, departmental goals and results. The primary work product is the mechanical design of all commercial, and industrial meters, distribution stations, transmission stations, other fabricated piping components and associated electronic controls, communication and automation equipment.

  • Lead, coach, train, mentor, evaluate and develop staff.

  • Make sound business recommendations to management on hiring, firing, discipline and pay actions of employees.

  • Create and manage budgets.

  • Timely and accurate collection, analysis, reconciliation and reporting of measurement and gas quality data for Company SCADA and Billing Systems.

  • Lead measurement programs, projects, and initiatives.

  • Develop and maintaining measurement procedures and standards of design.

  • Evaluate, select and specify materials to be used in designs as well as evaluation of material failures.

  • Provide support and training to project engineers and field operation employees for proper application of Meter and Regulator Standards, start-up and troubleshooting of new and existing stations, facilities, and equipment.

Who You Are:

You Have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.

    • Mechanical or Civil Engineering degrees are preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

You Are:

  • Proficient in organizational skills and project management experience/ability in the design and construction of pipeline facilities (or other equivalent engineering/construction management or coordination experience).

  • Proficient in computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office products and possess the ability to learn new computer software/systems.

  • Knowledgeable of natural gas pipeline safety regulations.

  • Possess the ability and a strong desire to adhere to safety and environmental policies/procedures and expectations.

  • Knowledgeable or can learn measurement design principles and use of applicable codes and standards.

  • Knowledgeable of mechanical piping design, associated equipment, and industrial control systems.

  • Experienced with relevant technical, analytical, and decision-making skills necessary to successfully design and construct pipeline facilities.

  • Forward thinking with a strong desire for continued knowledge and skills development and a willingness to accept future roles of increased responsibility.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of directly related experience.

  • Prior supervisory experience and/or direct leadership experience.

  • Proficient knowledge of natural gas pipeline safety regulations.

  • Registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) within North Carolina, OR, the ability to obtain one of these designations within six months.

  • Natural gas engineering and/or operations experience.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (including but not limited to Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49 Part 192, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations, and North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) regulations and other applicable codes.

  • Advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, Flow Analysis Software.

Working Conditions:

Work may be required outside of normal business hours.

Most of the work is performed in an office environment. Occasionally work is performed outside at job sites in varying weather conditions.

Availability to travel to other office locations and job sites across North Carolina is required. 10% – 20% (average one overnight per week)

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.
