The Role
 

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Marketing department in Canada by completing financial and operational management activities for the Global Event Management team in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
     
  • Manages financial operations and administration for Global Event Management including: processing invoices, Visa statements, and charge-backs; coordinating activities between business lines, event managers and suppliers; reviewing actual costs booked in Smart Stream; identifying and tracking outstanding issues with Accounts Payable and Finance teams; ensuring that cost recoveries are charged-back to the appropriate business line in a timely manner; working with other members of the Financial and Operations Management team to account for event recovery balances in management reporting.
     
  • Manages tracking and reporting of event budgets including tracking actual spending vs approved event budgets; reconciling event budget trackers with GL reports; collaborating with members of the Global Event Management team to prepare monthly budget reports for review with Event Owners; providing ad hoc expense analysis as required; completing event budget reconciliations/wrap-up reports including consolidating variance commentary.
     
  • Develops and implements accounting and financial management processes, including:  ensuring effective budget controls are in place and all expenses are processed in alignment with the Bank’s accounting processes and policies; documenting accounting processes and workflows; identifying, presenting, and initiating ongoing process improvements to create efficiencies; working with other departments to streamline processes; developing expense management forms and templates; testing amended/new procedures ensuring errors are logged and reported for follow-up; communicating new procedures/policies; and ensuring department procedure documentation is maintained.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
 

  • University degree with Major in Business or Accounting an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial management and/or accounting operations and administration. 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and requirements.  
  • Advanced excel skills.
  • Knowledgeable user of Scotiabank’s accounting systems.
  • Experience managing staff.
  • Strong planning and co-ordination skills required to simultaneously support multiple projects and complete deliverables on time.  
  • Experience developing and implementing ongoing process improvements. 
  • Exercises sound judgement/discretion, makes most decisions regarding day-to-day operation and escalates when necessary.
  • Detail-oriented worker who seeks perfection.
