What you will be doing:
The Director, Risk Advisor contributes to the overall success of Tangerine Bank in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The successful candidate will ensure that all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
The Director, Risk Advisor, Tangerine supports the VP, Internal Controls to work closely with Tangerine Risk Owners, Tangerine digital squads and Control & Support Functions on risk and compliance activities to fulfill the mandate of the Non-Financial Risk Program.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Ensure the overall integrity of risk management functions across the business by providing constructive challenge to business partners to drive a balanced risk model and appropriate risk-adjusted decision making.
- Provide sound advice and support to Risk Owners and business partners / stakeholders with Operational Risk Management to maintain strong operational design and effectiveness within Tangerine risk appetite.
- Participate in executive squad governance forum to provide risk guidance and help triage project delivery accounting for risk adjustment.
- Actively contribute to business projects and working sessions to perform dynamic risk assessments and proactively identify risks to drive compliance by design mindset.
- Challenge the design and implementation of Tangerine initiatives/projects and collaborate on the design of effective controls to mitigate key risks.
- Accelerate benefit realization and increase agility of project delivery by identify the right Control and Support function early in the process.
- Facilitate and accelerate the completion of risk assessments (e.g. New Initiative Risk Assessments, Privacy Impact Assessments, Threat Risk Assessments, etc.).
- Serve as escalation point to remove roadblocks for risk assessment through liaison with Scotiabank and Tangerine’s three line of defense with the goal of fostering robust, efficient, and appropriate risk assessments.
- Act as a risk and governance subject matter expert and provide Tangerine business units and executives with advice, guidance, and intelligence on current issues and emerging risk issues, and industry trends.
- Facilitate the engagement of business units and control functions in the use of the risk management tools under the Bank’s Operational Risk Management Framework and Compliance Risk Program.
- Provide thought leadership on Key Risk Indicators and Risk Appetite Framework activities.
- Provide risk advisory support for Operational and Compliance Risk activities, which includes but is not limited to the following: Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), Compliance Risk and Control Assessment (CRCA), Operational Risk Events (OREs), issues management, Regulatory Compliance Management and Regulatory Libraries.
- Provide clear, concise, and insightful risk portfolio reporting to senior management and board on all relevant matters related to non-financial risks.
- Own and coordinate risk reporting for the Tangerine Risk Governance Committee and present an overview of non-financial risk at Committee meetings.
- Manage and consolidate board reporting for the Tangerine Board for all risk domains including IT risk and financial risks.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- MBA or University degree with a minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in financial services.
- Strong understanding of the Canadian Banking business units, products, services, operations, systems, and practices.
- In-depth understanding of the Bank’s operations and controls, including knowledge of organization and infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of operational risk, regulations (OSFI Guidelines E-21, E-13, B-10), and internal policies & procedures impacting banking operations.
- Broad knowledge of key regulations covering Canadian Banking (e.g. Bank Act, etc.)
