Introduction
IBM Marketing & Communications is in search of a Global Social Engagement Partner (SEP) to drive our social media presence and engagement for Canada. In this role, you will develop and execute localized social media strategies that align with IBM’s global and local market priorities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, communications, and other internal and external stakeholders, to enhance brand visibility, foster meaningful conversations, and position IBM as a leader in the industry. The ideal candidate is a social media expert with a deep understanding of the Canadian region, landscape, audience behaviors, and platform trends, with a proven ability to manage social programs that deliver impact. Working proficiency in English and French required.
As a Global SEP, you will collaborate across teams to drive alignment between global strategies and local market needs, ensuring that social media efforts are executed effectively across the world. The focus will be on building and enhancing a cohesive social media strategy that aligns with IBM’s broader business objectives, promoting integration with other social media and influence functions and driving impactful, data-driven campaigns.
This role requires a strategic mindset, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to navigate complex, fast-paced environments while driving innovation in social media.
Your role and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead social media strategies for key initiatives and campaigns in Canada, covering owned social, paid social, employee advocacy and influencer marketing.
- Implement strategies by researching audience insights, leveraging platform strengths, staying updated on trends, and providing feedback on creative and tactics across key platforms (LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, and Instagram).
- Act as the main point of contact for all priority Canada focused events, launches, and product announcement communications between social media +Influence leadership and marketing teams.
- Analyze and develop metrics reports for key market initiatives, track KPIs, assess social performance to inform future strategy, and share insights with regional stakeholders.
- Identify and amplify impactful regional client stories, transforming them into broader narratives that can be shared across markets, and even globally.
- Collaborate with the Social Media Monitoring function to identify social listening opportunities during key market focused moments, enabling IBM to engage in relevant conversations across platforms.
- Manage the activation of influencer campaigns, ensuring they reflect both global and local objectives. Collaborate with the global paid influencer team to create impactful and relevant content for Canada, driving engagement and brand awareness.
Required education

Required technical and professional expertise
- 5-8 years of relevant experience in social media, either in-house or at an agency. Proven ability to develop, plan and execute social media strategies across verticals including owned, paid, advocacy and influencer marketing.
- Strong storytelling and content amplification skills, with experience transforming local stories into broader regional or global narratives.
- Ability to provide confident feedback on creative, copy, and social strategy.
- Experience working in a large, matrixed organization, collaborating across multiple teams, functions, and markets.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and advocate for the role of social media in driving brand relevancy and engagement.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple initiatives, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate social media strategies, insights, and recommendations.
- Deep understanding of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and their role in brand storytelling and audience engagement.
- Stay up to date on social media trends and best practices across all key platforms. Knowledgeable about emerging platforms and tools to provide feedback and adapt content while building tactical plans.
- Experience using social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprinklr, Brandwatch, Meltwater).
- Familiarity with social listening techniques to identify trends, measure impact, and uncover engagement opportunities.
- Understanding of paid, owned, and earned media strategies and how they integrate to drive awareness and influence.
- Ability to analyze social media performance metrics and KPIs, turning data into actionable insights and recommendations.
Preferred technical and professional experience
Knowledge of B2B marketing and enterprise technology trends is a plus.
