The Bank is required to produce a Recovery Plan that provides a detailed roadmap of the actions to be taken in the event of a financial crisis that could threaten its viability. The Bank is also required to produce a Resolution Plan which serves as a blueprint to demonstrate that the bank is resolvable.  The Manager will play a key supporting role in ensuring the department (and, by extension, the Bank) satisfactorily meets these evolving and highly demanding regulatory expectations. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Ensures overall compliance with Recovery and Resolution Planning regulatory requirements with OSFI and CDIC.
  • Supports the design, production, updating, enhancement and testing of the Bank’s Recovery and Resolution Plans, in accordance with evolving and complex regulatory requirements, regulatory timelines and requested deliverables.
  • Assists in the preparation of responses to requests relating to recovery and resolution planning from internal and external parties including BNS subsidiaries, governing bodies, OSFI and the CDIC.
  • Liaises and collaborates with multiple stakeholders through verbal and written communication channels. 
  • Takes ownership of work streams for the annual preparation of the bank’s recovery and resolution plans; this includes drafts and/or edits to the sections of each of the plans and the gathering, compilation and interpretation of information submitted by Subject Matter Experts across the enterprise.
  • Provides guidance to international Scotiabank teams responsible for local Recovery Planning, ensuring plans alignment.
  • Supports the implementation of projects related to the enhancement of the bank’s recovery/resolution plans.
  • Contributes to a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, with a special consideration to the three-lines of defense risk management model.
  • Participates in an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of the respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Economics preferred.
  • 3-5 years of business experience in more than one area of the Bank or related industry. Relevant experience in risk management, finance and treasury will be an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid stakeholder management skills.
  • Keen attention to detail. 
  • Excellent analytical skills, creativity, critical thinking, ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Proficiency in Spanish language and project management experience will be advantageous.
