The Manager, SCI Regulatory Reporting is a key partner in supporting Scotia Capital Inc. (SCI) Regulatory Reporting team to maintain compliance with its regulator, Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO).

 

The Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day capital reporting to ensure SCI is capital sufficient, perform financial analysis and stay abreast with the regulatory rules and regulations.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Reporting – Daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly regulatory reports and schedules:
    • Prepare, review and oversee the compilation of daily Regulatory Capital, weekly Capital Worksheet Reserve and monitoring of SCI’s Risk Adjusted Capital in accordance with CIRO regulations.
    • Prepare, review of daily/monthly reporting and analysis of SCI’s holdings of BNS issued securities for the purposes of Provider of Capital Concentration Charge (Schedule 14) and managing SCI’s Limited Recourse Loan facility.
    • Prepare, review of daily/monthly margin reporting and analysis of SCI’s Securities Borrowing and Lending activities (Schedule 1 / 7).
    • Prepare, review of Schedule 2 – market value of securities held in principal inventory and capital actual to estimate.
    • Review and prepare supplementary reports in support of the MFR.
    • Provide cross coverage in the preparation and review of various capital desks and functions including but not limited to Equity, Repo, Money Market, Bond, New Issue, FX and Capital Concentration as required.

 

  • Preparation and review of various off cycle reporting obligations including but not limited to;
    • SCI’s 13F Filing disclosing all long positions held in inventory for securities defined by the S.E.C.
    • CIPF Annual Asset Allocation Report.
    • Quarterly BNS common shares trading within SCI.

 

  • Managing and reviewing Scotia Real Estate Inc. (SREI)
    • Liaise with Investment Banking (IB) and Subsidiary Financial and Reporting (SFAR) to prepare intercompany invoice from SCI to SREI for expenses paid on behalf of SREI
    • Provide monthly attestations for SREI through monthly monitoring of its general ledger on PeopleSoft
    • Review annual tax filing and financial statements, as well as prepare notes for Board of Directors meeting
    • Monitor SREI’s cash balance in order to initiate draw on its loan facility
    • Provide requested information and files for annual review to the Bank, and any other requests throughout the year
    • Ensure monthly SREI account reconciliation is performed to maintain compliance with its regulator, RECO (Real Estate Council of Ontario) 

 

  • Managing internal and external audits (i.e. KPMG and CIRO) by participating in walkthroughs and ensuring requested files are submitted in a timely matter.

 

  • Supporting the Senior Manager and Chief Financial Officer:
    • Information gathering and analysis for projects and ad hoc requests from various internal and external partners.
    • Researches and finds solutions to support departmental initiatives.
    • Seek to implement innovative and strategic solutions to improve operational efficiency and strengthen controls.
    • Provides support and insights into SCI’s quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
    • Oversight of SCI’s Balance Sheet and Off-Balance Sheet and other pertinent metrics for the entity.

 

  • Developing & Coaching Talent – provide strong leadership, clear and open communication, setting expectations and accountabilities, and providing opportunities for development

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • University undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics or other related field
  • 5+ years of related Financial Industry experience.
  • A professional designation is an asset (i.e CSC, PDO, CFO, CFA, CPA).
  • Broad knowledge of Bank’s capital market products
  • Strong knowledge of prescribed CIRO regulatory reporting requirements and accounting procedures.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and VBA
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical / problem solving skills are necessary.
  • Ability to be highly organized, proficient at time management, work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks within tight time constraints.
