As a Principal Cloud Engineer – Cloud Operations Engineering, you contribute to the overall success of the Cloud and Platform Engineering department ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed /delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are following governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. You keep our cloud platform stable to provide an essential and dependable service that millions of customers use every day. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Design, manage and maintain cloud services and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of public cloud offerings with a hands-on approach

Design, implement and re-factor pipeline and infrastructure code.

Participate in design discussions focused on scalability and design and implementation best practices.

Work with other lead engineers and architects on breaking-down, scoping and estimating tasks.

Directly contribute to writing code, debugging and deploying infrastructure and applications to the cloud

Provide mentorship, peer review and code review

Lead product(s)/services(s), and define functions or features for cloud platforms, lead the work of 8+ engineers

Provide level 3 production support.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

9+ years of experience in cloud, software or other related engineering roles including significant experience in a leadership or advisory role

Extensive experience operating large-scale infrastructure in public cloud environments, such as Azure or GCP
-
Proven experience in cloud development (Microsoft Azure, Google GCP) is a benefit.

Advanced proficiency in creating production-ready code in high-level languages, such as Go, Python
-
Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and cloud platform/components/services development.

Proven experience in cloud cost management, observability, monitoring, and systems performance analysis and onboarding applications to the cloud

Proven expertise in architecting and scaling observability infrastructure to support comprehensive monitoring and analysis in large production environments

Expertise in deploying and managing monitoring, alerting, and logging systems at massive-scale, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Jaeger etc.

Knowledge of cost optimization strategies and tools in cloud environments e.g. GCP Cloud Cost Management, Apptio Cloudability etc.

Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; of specific importance the strong communication to a technical audience.

Attention to details, high standards for quality.

Writing and maintaining related documentation.

Experience within Canadian financial institutions a benefit

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
