Reporting to the Director, Programs, Compliance & AML, the Senior Manager contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking Compliance Program by ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you?  In this role, you will provide:

 

  • Lead and drive a customer-focused culture throughout your team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Provide support to the Director of Compliance, Canadian Banking, to ensure the Canadian Banking Compliance Program Framework is appropriate, sustainable, and adapted as needed to meet ongoing regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Develop and maintain internal procedures to ensure the sustainment and oversight of the Canadian Banking Compliance Program Framework.
  • Lead the implementation and alignment of the Global Compliance Framework (Policies, Standards, Operating Procedures, etc.) to the Canadian Banking Compliance Program as appropriate.
  • Act as a liaison between Enterprise Compliance and the broader Canadian Banking Compliance team to deliver and/or ensure Enterprise Compliance-related requests are addressed timely.
  • Work closely with the broader Canadian Banking Compliance team to ensure the sharing of insights, best practices, lessons learned, and to avoid silos.
  • Develop and/or contribute to business, executive, and regulatory reporting forums as appropriate.
  • Work with the Canadian Banking businesses to implement regulatory changes and enhance controls for existing regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify potential violations of regulatory requirements, internal policies, and procedures in a timely manner, and make recommendations to mitigate business, compliance, and operational risk.
  • Collaborate with counterparts across Global Compliance to share best practices, avoid silos, and ensure consistency and alignment with the Enterprise Compliance Framework.
  • Maintain deep knowledge and understanding of industry issues and practices, regulatory requirements, and associated changes.
  • Provide training to the broader Canadian Banking Compliance team and stakeholders within the business as appropriate.
  • Provide advice and counsel to Canadian Banking business units and programs regarding regulatory compliance, products, programs, policies, and procedures to support effective compliance risk management practices in Canadian Banking as needed.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which your team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the financial services industry, preferably within a regulatory compliance, audit, or risk management function.
  • The ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment.
  • The ability to drive success in a high-performing, flexible, and small/medium team environment.
  • Superior interpersonal and leadership skills, as well as the ability to effectively and appropriately influence decision-making in a multicultural environment.
  • Self-motivation: the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multifunctional and in-country teams.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a results-oriented and data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Experience in managing several ongoing projects and competing priorities concurrently.
  • A proven track record of delivering innovative solutions from concept to implementation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including knowledge and proficiency with Visio and MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
