As a valued leader in the Special Accounts Management Banking team, you will be exposed to deal flow that is diverse in terms of industry, structure, geographic area and business risks. The Special Accounts Management portfolio is comprised of underperforming Canadian accounts generally risk rated IG65 and lower, that typically require a restructure, refinancing or the enforcement of security. You will perform in depth review and analysis of Corporate, Commercial and Real Estate Problem loans and provide recommendations to the SVP Credit or Senior Credit Committee. Tasks include, but are not limited to: account monitoring, risk analysis, deal structuring, pricing, negotiation with stakeholders, preparation of credit presentations/quarterly status reviews and presentation at senior credit committee. The incumbent will interface with clients directly, and where appropriate in partnership with the Director, Vice President and SVP.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Reporting to the Director, you will manage a portfolio of assigned accounts, including responsibility for:
- Day-to-Day management, preparation and presentation of credit presentations/quarterly status reviews and client negotiations, to mitigate the risk of losses to the Bank.
- Manage the agency function for accounts where the Bank is the Agent for a syndicate of banks.
- Ensure annual reviews and QSRs are completed when due.
- Maintain day to day contact with customers.
- Maintain relationships with financial and legal advisors, whose services may be engaged during the management of certain accounts.
- Provide recommendations to senior executives and present / participate in discussions in Corporate and Commercial Senior Credit Committees as required.
- Develop a high degree of industry knowledge / expertise and ensure the ongoing quality of the portfolio through review of industry publications and the assessment of financial reporting packages.
- Prepare and process provision recommendations.
- Partner with the Director and Vice President in the development of people through training and mentoring.
- Take responsibility for the planning and presentation of training sessions for GRM/Banking staff as it relates to problem loans
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Corporate and/or Commercial banking.
- Superior skills in financial analysis and risk assessment.
- Awareness of differences in the tax, legal and accounting rules of the various jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of a wide variety of industries and markets which require specialized knowledge.
- General computer knowledge to effectively use various computer software applications.
- Solid knowledge of insolvency and restructuring matters or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
- Strong business sense (ability to think outside the box and be creative with solutions to distressed situations).
- Proven skills with respect to deal negotiation, deal structuring, due diligence and loan documentation.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Strong time management, planning and organizing skills to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills.
- Flexible working hours.
- Ability to travel (access to car as may be needed).
- Professional designation (CPA, CFA) or MBA, with a minimum of 5+ years Corporate and/or Commercial Banking experience preferred.
