Reporting to the Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, or designate, the Specialist, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, is accountable for supporting the development, promotion, and communication of the Bank’s Global DEI strategy, commitments, and initiatives, and managing the assigned portfolio budget(s). The Specialist is expected to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the Bank of Nova Scotia. The Specialist will ensure that all employees, regardless of their race, gender, age, ability, or sexual orientation, feel valued and included. This role is highly cross-functional and ensures that programs and initiatives enhance the company’s reputation while bridging community and business goals to drive impact and momentum.

DEI Administration and Initiatives

Work alongside leaders and staff to further a sense of belonging and advance inclusive and accessible workplace culture; and evaluate existing structures to ensure systemic barriers impeding employee and organizational development are removed.

Monitor, analyze, and report on key metrics to help determine the overall effectiveness and performance of the portfolio strategies.

Work with Senior Manager to identify and remove barriers for employees with disabilities to positively impact the employee experience and drive appropriate systemic changes.

Support with reviews and accessibility audits on resources, trainings, and communications, as needed.

Assist in building awareness and inclusion for Persons with Disabilities and accessibility within various teams across the Bank.

Maintains the team’s database of policies, guidelines, training, resources, and other deliverables, including those stored on intranet portals.

Coordinate the collection, validation, analysis, maintenance and communication of DEI report and dashboard.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback, approvals, and maintain transparent communication.

Manage the assigned budget, including spending, invoice processing and preparation of monthly/quarterly updates for Vice President and Finance

Prepares accurate, comprehensive, and timely minutes, reports, dashboards, and PowerPoint decks for the use in the All-Bank Inclusion Council, Human Capital Council, and other committees/councils, in relation to assigned portfolio or as assigned by direct leader.

Designs, develops, and maintains program manuals and supporting documentation, with input from the DEI team and other stakeholders.

Identifies opportunities and implements approved improvements to DEI processes with the relevant stakeholders.
Legislative Compliance Support

Provides administrative support for federal regulatory compliance requirements within Global Inclusion, including but not limited to Employment Equity Act (EEA), Accessible Canada Act (ACA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), etc.

Provides specific data analytics and reporting for employment equity workforce representation, employment systems, policies and practices reviews.

Supports the administration, scheduling and tracking of regulatory activities including employee consultations (listening sessions), campaigns/initiatives, etc.

Supports the accurate and timely compilation of Scotiabank’s annual reporting, as assigned.

Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her/their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

At least 2+ years of progressive, professional experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, anti-racism and decolonization in service delivery programs and workplaces.

Knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity, and belonging, with demonstrated ability to act and achieve results to help drive the Bank’s commitment to a strong sense of belonging.

Working experience with disability-related issues with respect to digital accessibility, assistive technologies, and universal design is an asset.

IAAP Certification is an asset.

Expert knowledge in all Microsoft Office tools and applications, with an emphasis on built-in accessibility tools is an asset.

Strong attention to detail, organizational and project management skills, with the ability to project lead multiple key projects effectively and simultaneously.

Excellent data analytical skills and research skills with the ability to interpret and present a strong story.

Confident and effective communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Goal, metric and results-oriented, with the ability to establish a keen sense of responsibility, accountability, and engagement among teams.

Fluent in Spanish and/or French is an asset, but not a requirement.
